In response to inclement weather on February 9, 2018, Grayslake Community High School District 127 made the decision to cancel school.  We must use an emergency day at the end of the school year so that we meet the required number of school days per year. Therefore, the last day of student attendance will be May 21, 2018.  Graduation will be held on Saturday, May 19th as originally planned. This impacts the dates of final exams.

Below you will find detailed information about second semester final exam schedules for the 2017-2018 school year, adjusted for both the use of an emergency day and a conflict due to AP exams.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Associate Principal for Curriculum and Instruction in your high school. For Grayslake Central you can contact Barb Georges at bgeorges@d127.org and for Grayslake North you can contact Jeff Schagrin at jschagrin@d127.org.

SENIOR FINAL EXAMS

Due to the snow day, one of the final exam days was bumped until after graduation  As a result, we needed to create a new final exam schedule for seniors to accommodate this unanticipated event.   All graduating seniors will take exams on Tuesday, May 15th and Wednesday, May 16th. The details are below.

Senior Finals - Tuesday (5/15) and Wednesday (5/16)

  • 50 Minute Exams
  • Tuesday (5/15) periods 5 - 8: Students attend periods 1-4 as normal, then take finals periods 5-8.
  • Wednesday (5/16) periods 1 - 4: Graduating Seniors may leave after 4th hour, but must provide their own transportation.
  • Friday (5/18) -- Senior breakfast and Graduation practice
  • Saturday (5/19) Graduation
  • If a student is taking an AP exam on either final exam date, they will need to take their exams in AP Conflict Test-Makeup Window (see more information below).
  • Seniors will be dismissed after 4th hour on the 16th.They do not report to school on Thursday unless they are making up an exam.

STUDENTS WITH ADVANCED PLACEMENT EXAM/FINAL EXAM CONFLICTS

Because Advanced Placement exams began later in May this year than in the last few years, we have a conflict between two of our scheduled final exam days (5/15 and 5/16 for seniors and 5/17 or 5/18 for everyone else) and AP tests scheduled for those same dates.  We have decided to open a window of testing to allow students many different dates/times/options for taking final exams that conflict with an AP test they will be taking at that same time instead. The chart below outlines the entire week two of AP testing schedule.  The details of the AP/final exam conflict follow the table below and apply to students of all grade levels, including seniors who might have conflict during senior finals.

AP Exam Conflict Finals - Tuesday (5/15), Wednesday (5/16), Thursday (5/17) Friday (5/18)

Some students may have a conflict on the following dates

  • Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors with exams on 5/17 and 5/18
  • Seniors with AP exams on 5/15 or 5/16.
  • If a student has an AP exam on the day of a regularly scheduled final, they will need to take their school final during the Test-Makeup Window (see below).

AP Conflicted Finals Test-Makeup Window: Structure

  • Located in C105 at North and in the Arena at Central
  • The AP Conflicted Finals Test-Makeup Window  will accomodate students who are missing a normal scheduled final due to their AP exam.  Students are excused from school on the day they take their AP exam with parent permission.  This is done so they can solely focus on their AP exam. Students can makeup their missed school final at any point during the Finals Test-Makeup Window (see below).  Below is a list of dates and times (note the different times for each high school) when students can take their AP conflicted school final exams outside of the regularly scheduled time.  We are providing an extended window for students with an AP exam conflict so they can plan their week accordingly. Students must take finals at their own high school.

  • Seniors with AP conflicts can use the same schedule, but must be done by Thursday, May 17 due to Graduation deadlines.
  • If a student cannot make any of these times/dates, they should contact their teacher to make arrangements.
