The faculty and staff of Grayslake Central provide every opportunity for students to discover excellence in academics, clubs and athletic activities, the fine arts, and most importantly to discover their passions. Grayslake Central is coming off an extremely successful 2015-2016 school year, and I wanted to share some of these highlights with you:
•We are a nationally recognized high school
- The Washington Post rated Central as 26th best in IL and top 3.8% in the nation.
- US News and World report granted us a silver medal, 27th best in IL and top 2.6% nationally
- Niche ranked us in the top 4% of high schools in the nation (36 in IL) for overall performance.
- Newsweek ranked us 424th in the country (21 in IL) for college readiness.
•Our ACT scores increased again and over 900 students sat for an AP exam.
•Our athletic teams had an amazing year earning conference championships, numerous all state awards, a state championship in boys Cross Country, an individual state champion in cross country, and several regional championships.
•The Fine Arts continue to excel at Grayslake Central. Our music program earned 6th place in the state. Marching Band earned a 2nd place at the Marengo competition.
•We sent students to explore several countries around the world. This summer 36 students traveled to Japan!
•Our journalism and yearbook programs consistently earned top awards for writing, editing, and photography. The student newspaper, The Rampage, earned ALL-KEMPA designation for News Magazine this year at the Kettle Moraine Press Association Critique.
Grayslake Central’s true strength is our community and the collective support we offer to our students. These accomplishments are truly symbolic of the amazing students who walk our halls. I am looking forward to a great 2016-2017 school year and cannot wait to celebrate all that our students will accomplish this year.
On August 30th, Grayslake Central hosted our annual Back to School Night. Parents walked their student’s schedule and met the teachers. We had over 450 families represented! We thank you for coming to the school and learning about your student’s courses. If you would like more time to meet with their teacher, sign up for Parent-Teacher conferences, to be held on October 6th and 7th.
