GLNHS Weekly Announcements: Published 9/11/18

Science Olympiad will be having its next meeting, this Thursday after school in room A329. We plan on assigning everyone their competition events, so please make sure to come to the meeting!  Contact Mrs. Grutza or Mrs. Sylverne if you are unable to attend.

"On Tuesday, September 11th there will be a meeting at Grayslake North for any interested Freshman, Sophomores, or Juniors who are interested in attending the Spain/Portugal Trip in 2019 or the South Africa trip in 2020.  The meeting will take place in the black box at 6:30 p.m.  All are welcome.  Please email Miss Tomasello at JTomasello@d127.org for any questions."

Hey Kids, Do you want to challenge yourself Academically? Do you want to learn something new in a fun atmosphere? Think you could kick some butt if you played  Jeopardy: Then join academic team! Come to an informational meeting about academic team on Wednesday Sept. 12th at 3:!5 in room A250 and find out what it's all about!

The Outdoor Adventure Club will be taking their first two trips of the school year kayaking and mountain biking.  The kayak trip will be Friday, September 28th from 3:30-9pm and the mountain bike trip will be on Friday, October 5th from 12:30-6:30pm.  Permission slips for both trips will be due by Friday, September 21st and the cost for each trip will be $40.  See Coach Wolter or Coach Hansen in the PE department with any questions.

Social Studies Week:

Monday Announcement: This week (Sept. 10-14) is Social Studies Week. The theme this year is “Service and the Community.” There will  be special events throughout the week and social studies themed music during passing periods. Today your challenge is to serve your community. Visit the Pillar of Service outside the main office for a list of upcoming volunteer opportunities.

Tuesday Announcement: Today is the anniversary of the September 11th attacks. The Social Studies Department is challenging you to honor the lives lost and legacy of 9/11 through thanking the people who have served and who are currently serving. Write a thank you letter to a veteran, active service member, new recruit, or first responder outside the cafeteria. Letters will be sent to those who serve through the Operation Gratitude organization.

Wednesday Announcement: Your Social Studies challenge today is to partner with Psychology Club in bringing awareness to the issue of Human Trafficking. Join the campaign to end modern day slavery. Stop by the table outside of the cafeteria for more information on the Walk for Freedom on Oct. 20th

Thursday Announcement: For your Social Studies challenge today, honor your family and friends who serve by placing their picture or name on the world map outside the cafeteria with their current place of service including those who are serving at home or are first responders.

Friday Announcement: Your Social Studies challenge today is to be civically engaged!  If you are 18, go to Twitter and search #GNHSVotes for tips on how to register to vote online. You can also register to vote with one of our official registrars: Mrs. Bristow, Mrs. Wise, Mrs. Karabush, and Mr. Kubic. Check out apps like Countable or other news sites to become informed on current issues.

Psychology Club is raising awareness for human trafficking by organizing a Walk for Freedom on October 20th from 10am-noon. YOU can make a lasting impact by joining our efforts to help those who have been enslaved and trafficked! To get involved or for more information, contact Mrs. Dodd or a member of Psychology Club. 

Sunday 9/16 is KICKOFF to Homecoming week please come out to Homecoming Festival ON SUNDAY 9/16  from 11-4 we will have games, food trucks, dunk tank and your student bands. Admission is 5.00 for everyone. 

NEW CLUB, Triathlon Club, staring this year! Train with friends, stay in 
shape and possibly earn a College Scholarship. It will be coached by 
Matt Petersen, Elite Triathlete, 12x Ironman & Certified USA TRI Level 2 
and Youth & Junior Coach. The club will meet regularly through all 
months of the year and do races in the summer. Grayslake Central & North 
will be combined. All abilities welcome. You only need goggles, 
swimsuit, safe bike, helmet & running shoes. Info meeting options are:

Bonjour! French Club will meet Tuesday, September 11th in room A147 from 3:15- 4:00. All are welcome!

Perfect Pals will have their second meeting Tuesday September 11th after school in B156, the junior/ senior lunch room. Hope to see some returning and new faces there!

Homecoming tickets on sale now for 20.00 thru Sept.14th guest forms will be in the Dean's office. Also sign for Powder Puff, check Schoology or sign up in the cafe Sept 6th during lunch hours. Mandatory meeting for all students interested in participating in Powder Puff Friday Sept 7th at 7:30 in C105.

Any sophomore, junior, or senior with a GPA of 3.0 or over should consider applying to become a SWAT peer tutor.  There should be info in your D127 e-mail already; if not, or if you have questions, contact Mr. Kubic in the Social Studies department, office A153.

(WEDNESDAY) "SWAT tutors, please don't forget to come to C105 for 4th, 5th, and 6th period for training.  Food will be provided.  You should plan on staying all three periods.  Contact Mr. Kubic with questions."
