FIVE STEPS TO APPLY TO THE

CLC Logo

Step 1 - Apply by Completing the Student Admission Form

If you have never completed the CLC admission form, apply using the Student Admission Form. Do NOT use your GCHS email address to register at CLC; please use a personal email. If you applied or enrolled in any classes at CLC in the last 5-years, your record is active and you do not need to submit a new Student Admission form; you are automatically eligible to enroll in classes.

Step 2 - Set Up myLogin

When your application has been processed (usually within one business day), you will be given a CLC myLogin username and temporary password as part of the admission process. If you provided an email address on your application your username and password will be emailed to you in two separate emails. All new students will also receive an official admission letter with their login information via US Mail.

Once you have your username and temporary password, you can set up myLogin.

Step 3 - Prerequisites and Transcripts

Demonstrate that you meet proficiencies and prerequisites:

  • Before you will be able to register for most college credit classes, you need to show that you are college reading and writing ready and basic algebra ready.
  • All applicants who plan to enroll in credit classes need to prove academic proficiency in English language and basic algebra readiness. Most classes require one or both of these proficiencies as prerequisites to enroll in the course. Proficiency can be met in a variety of ways described in the links that follow. You may order your Official High School Transcript by completing an Official High School Transcript Release Form, available from the GCHS College Career Center or your high school counselor.

College Reading and Writing ReadinessIncoming students will be assessed for English language proficiency as demonstrated by meeting any one of the following:

  • High school transcript showing top one-third rank in class on the final transcript (or current transcript after at least five semesters).
  • High school transcript showing a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on the final transcript (or current transcript after at least five semesters).
  • CLC English Placement Test: Score of 505 or higher.
  • American College Test (ACT), Reading: Score of 17 or above, and English: Score of 17 or above.
  • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Score of 470 or above.

If you do not meet the minimum requirements for college level Reading and Writing, you will be required to take the CLC Placement Test. Central offers 2 opportunities to take the CLC Placement Test right here at GCHS. If you are unable to attend one of our in-school testing dates, you may take the CLC Placement Test(s) on your own, at CLC, by visiting the CLC Testing Center.

Basic Algebra Readiness: Incoming students will be assessed for Basic Algebra Readiness as demonstrated by meeting any one of the following:

  1. High school transcript showing top one-third rank in class on the final transcript (or current transcript after at least five semesters).
  2. High school transcript showing a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on the final transcript (or current transcript after at least five semesters).
  3. CLC Math Placement Test: Score of 14 or higher.
  4. American College Test (ACT), Math: Score of 17 or above.
  5. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), Math Score of 530 or above.

If you do not meet the minimum requirements for college level Algebra, you will be required to take the CLC Math Placement Test. Central offers 2 opportunities to take the CLC Placement Test right here at GCHS. If you are unable to attend one of our in-school testing dates, you may take the CLC Placement Test(s) on your own, at CLC, by visiting the CLC Testing Center.

Step 4 - Academic Advisement & New Student Orientation (NSO)

New high school graduates entering CLC for the first time, must attend a new student orientation session. Prior to registering for any NSO, you are required to attend a brief Pre-NSO at GCHS; details will be provided at a later date. During new-student orientation, you will learn about academic success tips, services to help you succeed at CLC, financial aid and how to get involved in campus life. You will also take a tour of the Grayslake campus and complete the registration process. You will register for your classes during your New Student Orientation (NSO). Central offers 2 opportunities to attend a NSO exclusively with other GCHS students, with bus transportation provided to CLC. You may register for any NSO date by visiting the CLC website.

Step 5 - Complete Registration

Students who attend new student orientation will complete the registration process as part of their session.

Other students should go to the myCLC student portal. After entering your login, select the “Student Center” option to be taken to the student registration system. For more information, see How to Register.

If you need login help, contact the Help Desk which is available 24 hours. If you need assistance with ANY of these steps, please see Ms. Mercure in the College Career Center (Room 2900) or your counselor.
