Morning Announcements

5/10/22: SENIOR LUNCH and GRADUATION PRACTICE will be held at 12:30pm on Tuesday, May 24th, right after early dismissal from classes. The lunch is held in the cafeteria, and practice will be held on the stadium field immediately after. Attendance is mandatory for the practice if you intend to walk in the graduation ceremony. You will receive your graduation tickets at the end of practice.

5/3/22:  YEARBOOK ORDERS FOR 2021/22 HAVE CLOSED: Yearbooks will be distributed during lunch periods on MAY 18, 19, & 20! There will be an extremely limited number of yearbooks for purchase during yearbook distribution week. $60.00 cash or check can be brought to the table for purchase (we will sell out FAST). 2022 SPRING INSERTS will be available for pickup at REGISTRATION IN JULY! If you have any questions related to yearbook please contact Ashley Kopecky at akopecky@d127.org.

4/4/22: This Thursday, April 7th join the Fine Arts department at Grayslake North High School for MUSE A Celebration of the Fine Arts. From 6-8:30pm enjoy art, music and theater activities and performances for everyone in the family! We hope to see you there! 

3/25/22: District 127 is collecting supplies to help the Ukrainian people. Please see the attached flyer for more information. Supplies will be collected through April 15 at the main entrances of both schools.

In honor of Women's History Month, Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society is hosting and moderating a panel of "Influential Women." Our panel is this Wednesday 3/23 from 6-7:30pm in the HUB. We have amazing panelists from multiple fields who will discuss their careers, experiences, and advice for the next generation. We would love it if you would be able to join us for this special event. 

3/18/22: Thursday, March 31. 2022 from 3:30-4:30 PM PLTW (Project Lead the Way), along with John Deere and SWE (Society of Women Engineers)  is hosting an exciting opportunity for female engineer and computer science students to about the journey of taking your curiosity and turning it into a career. Breakout rooms will also occur with the ability to talk with engineers, ask questions and learn about their pathways to careers. EVENT FLYER. Interested students should fill out this google form by 3/25/22. An additional permission form will be sent to you to allow you to view this virtual opportunity over Spring Break.

3/16/22: **Juniors: next week there will be a mandatory Knights Block session on Junior College Planning. Monday March 21 will be in room C105 during your Knights Block. Tuesday March 22nd in room B162 during your Knights Block. The counselors look forward to seeing you there!

** Mental Health Matters will be having their next meeting next meeting before school on Tuesday March 22nd at 7:35 am in C105. The group is student led and focuses on discussions, relating, and venting whether that be about school or any other experiences. Come join!
Mental health matters will be making their positive affirmation board outside the cafeteria this upcoming Thursday March 17th and Friday March 18th during lunch. Volunteers will bring out sticky notes to lunch tables to have students write positive notes to put up. We hope to have as many notes as possible and completely fill the board. 2/18/22: Student Council is partnering with Mothers Trust Foundation to help them with their annual Pop Up Prom Shoppe at University Center of Lake County. This is a FREE dress and accessories give away for ALL current Lake County high school students with a valid high school ID. The Junior Class will be hosting a Prom Dress Drive here at Grayslake North and all of the contributions will be donated to the Pop Up Prom Shoppe. Please consider donating any new or gently used: Dresses, Formal shoes, Formal handbags, Jewelry 
The Junior Class will be available to accept donations outside of the bookstore before and after school on Tuesday, March 1st - Friday, March 4th. If you would like to donate at another time prior to March 4th, we will happily accept your donations at the bookstore. 2/9/22: Today is an eLearning day. Please see the email from Superintendent Dr. Storaasli with eLearning procedures. Before the end of the school day today, we will articulate plans for moving forward. 

The GNHS Environmental Club members would like to 'give back' this Valentine's Day!  We have had such tremendous support for our hanging basket and mum sales and decided we'd like to 'pay it forward'! Fill out the Google form to have ONE carnation delivered to your love, your crush, your BFF or your favorite teacher/GNHS staff member - for FREE!  Go ahead, brighten someone's day!
**One order per person is allowed.  When the 125 carnations are "spoken for", the form will close.  Carnations will be delivered in school between 2/9 - 2/11. Thank you for your continued support with recycling properly and our hanging basket and mum flower sales!

1/26/22: Out of an abundance of caution, the Winter Dance scheduled for Saturday, February 12th has been canceled. Instead, Student Council is hosting a Dodgeball Tournament on Saturday, February 26th. Student Council will be putting out more information in the coming week!

1/12/22: On Tuesday, January 25th, all junior students will take a mandatory practice SAT with Essay during school hours. The test will begin promptly at 8:15 am and is scheduled to conclude at approximately 1:00 pm. Students will have time to eat lunch when testing concludes, and will attend their 4th-hour classes as normal.

12/8/21: Tonight, Grayslake North Fine Arts presents a Choir Concert and Winter Art Show! 5:30pm to 7:30pm. 
Tomorrow, 12/9/21, there is a D127 Special Olympic basketball game vs. Wauconda High School. 4pm - 5pm. It is Senior Night! Admission is free, bring your friends and family to support all of these amazing athletes!
* Future Business Leaders of America is now accepting clothing donations of gently used clothes plus new socks, underwear and mittens. Bins are set up at the main entrance and outside the athletic office. The drive will run through next Friday, the 17th. Donations are given to a local donation center. 

12/3/21: Student Council is collecting gift wrapping supplies to wrap the Holiday Help items that will help North families in need. All Things Wrapping will collect outside the College & Career office until 12/8... and the Holiday Help program is collecting donations until 12/10. Every little bit helps!!

12/1/21:  As we get closer to the end of the fall semester, here are some important details on the schedule for the week of December 13th. 

Wednesday, December 15th, there will be NO LATE START. It is a full day schedule, Block Periods 5-8. 

The last two days of the semester will consist of four, 60-minute periods with no lunch built-in. Student attendance is expected like on other days. Students can request to meet with teachers for extra help until the 3:23pm. Buses will run after Block Periods 4 and 8, and Activity/Sports late buses will run as usual. 

Thursday, December 16th, shortened Black (A) day 
Block 1: 8:15 - 9:15am
Block 2: 9:20 - 10:20am
Block 3: 10:25 - 11:25am
Block 4: 11:30am - 12:30pm
Friday, December 17th, shortened Gold (B) day 
Block 5: 8:15 - 9:15am
Block 6: 9:20 - 10:20am
Block 7: 10:25 - 11:25am
Block 8: 11:30am - 12:30pm

Block 3 and 7 have NO LUNCH on 12/16 and 12/17.
Box lunches will be available for students who stay for the remainder of the day. 

11/29/21: **Students interested in attending Tech Campus next year, there will be three short informational presentations held during the A, B and C portions of the lunch block on Tuesday, November 30th, in Room C105.  Please stop by during your lunch hour - a representative from the Tech Campus will be there presenting and answering any individual questions students may have.  There is no need to sign up, simply stop by and see what Tech Campus is all about.

**This holiday season, North's Public Service Practicum Class is pairing up with Lake County Haven for a donation drive. Lake County Haven is a social service agency dedicated to meeting the needs of homeless women and children. They are accepting paper towels, toilet paper, garbage bags, and other household items. You can drop off your donations in boxes located in the main office, the athletic office, and the hub.

**The Knight of the Month committee would like to congratulate Drew Lerman for being selected as the December KNIGHT OF THE MONTH.  Congratulations, Drew !!

** Please join in the school-wide spirit of wrapping up the first semester strong, celebrating the upcoming holidays, and having a wonderful winter break. Wear anything festive (festive fleece pants, ugly sweaters, dreidel earrings, etc)  every Monday until winter break!

11/11/21: Happy Veteran's Day, thank you current and past service members!

It's that time of the year to spread the holiday cheer with a donation! Our Holiday Help program provides food and gifts to families in need. Any donation made, makes a huge impact this holiday season. Student Council members will be dividing up the donations and shopping for families, fulfilling their wishes collected by the SST team. The link can be found here to donate but please feel free to share with family and friends! Last year we were able to raise $7000 and give 36 families a holiday to remember. Store is open NOW and closes on December 10th. Thank you in advance and have a wonderful holiday season!

 

11/5/21: Yearbook photo retakes and make-up pictures will be taken on Monday, November 15th from 8:00 am - 3:00pm in C105.  If you have not had your yearbook picture taken or would like to retake your picture, please go to C105 during your lunch or Knight Block. There will be picture order forms available in C105 on November 15th.

10/20/21: TONIGHT is our winter sports information night for all students interested in participating in girls and boys basketball, bowling, cheer, dance, and wrestling. Please meet at 6:30pm in the fieldhouse. 
** Model UN is sponsoring a sale of Nothing Bundt Cakes in the cafeteria this Thursday and Friday
** Social Media & Technology has a collection box in the front office collecting supplies (blankets, toys, treats, etc.) for local dog shelters. Don't Shop, Adopt!

 

10/5/21: There is no school this Friday, Oct 8th for parent/teacher conferences. Evening Homecoming activities are still going as planned. Also, there is NO LATE START next Wednesday, October 13th due to Juniors taking the PSAT. Normal class times all day... it will be a Gold Day Blocks 5-8.

Monday 9/27 and Tuesday 9/28. All Freshmen will report to B162 at the start of the Knights Block for a mandatory 20-minute YouScience Presentation.  After the presentation all freshmen will report to C105 for yearbook photos.
* SOPHOMORES
Monday 9/27 and Tuesday 9/28. All sophomores will report to C105 for yearbook photos. 
* JUNIORS
Thursday 9/30 and Friday 10/1. All juniors will report to C105 for yearbook photos.
* SENIORS
Thursday 9/30 and Friday 10/1. All seniors will also report to C105 for yearbook photos. All seniors can attend the College Application Workshop presented by Counseling staff in B162.  This is a drop in service for hands on help with the Common App or any college applications.

September 22nd – Open House
Open House at GNHS is for all parents.  You will follow your student's schedule spending 10 minutes in each class.   During your student’s lunch period, we encourage you to visit the HUB (Library) to see the renovations that were done over the summer.  Per the State mandate, you must wear a mask while in the building.  Click here for the Parent University offerings and the classroom schedule.

September 27th & 28th – Freshman and Sophomore Yearbook Photos
Total Image Photographics will be in Room C105 on 9/27 and 9/28 to take yearbook photos of all Freshman and Sophomore students.  Pictures will be taken during their Knight Block.  If you would like to order photos, forms will be mailed home prior to picture day.   There will also be order forms available on the day of pictures.

September 30th & October 1st – Junior and Senior Yearbook Photos.

* Attention Knight Fans - there will be a fan bus heading to Deerfield High School tomorrow 9/3 to watch the varsity football game. If you are interested intaking the bus to cheer on the football team, stop by the athletic office for a permission slip. All permission slips must be turned in my tomorrow (Friday) afternoon. The bus will be departing from GNHS at 6pm 9/3. Come out and cheer on your Knights!

Cap and Gown Pick Up - Friday, May 7th from 10:30am - 1:00pm in the Athletic Hallway     Herff Jones will be here TOMORROW to distribute caps and gowns.  Any caps and gowns that are not picked up tomorrow will be left with me for distribution.    So, if you cannot pick up your cap and gown tomorrow, please see Mrs. DeFiore next week.  If you have not ordered your cap and gown, they will have extras but you will need to supply payment (check or credit card).   If you are a remote student, Mrs. DeFiore will stay at school until 4:30 on Tuesday, May 11th and Wednesday, May 12th.  Please let Security know you are here to pick up your cap and gown. 
**Senior Honors Night - May 18th, at 6:30pm in the Field House    We will be starting Honors Night at 6:30pm.  Please check your email for an invitation as well as a link to reserve tickets.

We are hosting a Blood Drive May 16th for students and Staff only in the Fieldhouse! You can sign up with the link below. To make sure we are safe, we can only collect 60 donations for the entire day, so sign up is required! If you are 16 you will need a parent consent form that you can pick up from Mrs. Repp in the athletics/activities office. 4/28/21: Upcoming events:

  • May 1st, 11:00am - 3:00pm:  Student Council will be hosting FOOD TRUCK FEST in the staff parking lot.  Stix and Noodles, Churros Y Chocolate, inc., Mario's Cart and Cream-Crunch-N-More will be here serving some delicious items.  The menu is attached below.  Mask and social distancing protocols will be enforced.
  • May 17th - Teacher Institute Day - No School
  • May 27th - Last Day of School for everyone: grades 9-12

 

4/23/21: We will be AAPPL testing for the Bilitercy Seal for Seniors on April 28th & 30th. Students must earn a 480 on ERW SAT or a 4.8 on ACCESS. DEADLINE to sign up is today at NOON. 

 

4/1/21: Summer school registration is now open. Summer School is an extension of our regular academic program designed to provide students with opportunities to gain academic credit, to receive enrichment or remediation, and to explore new interests. Incoming freshmen are strongly encouraged to enroll in summer school as it facilitates the adjustment and transition to high school. See this Summer School webpage for class descriptions and registration!

 

3/30/21: We have some important information regarding testing on April 13th and 14th for GNHS Juniors. 
** Tuesday, April 13 - SAT (NO ESSAY) for Juniors. 
** Wednesday, April 14 - SAT Day 2 Accommodations Testing and ISA (Illinois Science Assessment) for all Juniors.
All juniors should plan to be in attendance on both days to complete state required testing.  All 9th, 10th, and 12th grade students will be remote on these days working on asynchronous assignments.    

 

3/18/21: The Illinois State Board of Education recently published Revised Public Health Guidance for Schools, adjusting many of the guidelines that we have used to operate school safely in the middle of a global pandemic. Please read carefully the email that was sent on 3/17/21 by the Superintendent of the Grayslake School District. This plan involves a new schedule for our students and we ask that you fill out this form by Wednesday, March 31st if you would like to change your student's in-person learning status.

  • NHS applications are due tomorrow, March 12th. Please see/email Mrs. Remshak with any questions. 
  • AAPPL testing sign-up for the March 17 & 19th test is also tomorrow, March 12th. Sign up here!
  • For the LAST time this school year we are opening up the online spirit wear store from Student Council. The Store is open now, and closes on Monday, March 22nd, so BUY NOW if interested. All items (if not backordered) will be printed, organized and sent to the school for pick up around 2-3 weeks after the store closes. Thank you for all your support and ordering! The Student Council appreciates it and can't wait for NEW designs to come out in the fall of 2021!
