Grayslake Community High School District 127 continues to lead with strong financial stewardship, balancing student needs with taxpayer value.
As shared in the district’s recent five-year financial forecast, D127 is well-positioned to deliver high-quality education while maximizing every dollar. With a decade of clean audits, a top-tier AA+ bond rating, and 10 consecutive years earning the Illinois State Board of Education’s Financial Recognition designation, the district’s fiscal management is both stable and strategic.
Significant Returns for the Community
$10.8 million returned to taxpayers through the state’s Property Tax Relief Grant, saving the average homeowner $674 on a $250,000 home.
$7.6 million annually in additional relief since the 2002 building bonds were fully paid off in 2021, further reducing the local tax burden.
We Stretch Every Dollar
Despite common perceptions, D127 collects $5,602 less per student in property taxes than the Lake County average for high schools (based on the most recent available data from 2024). This puts the district among the most cost-effective in the region, while still offering more than 170 courses, 28 AP classes, robust dual credit options, and growing internship and career pathway programs.
Focused on What Matters Most
83% of the district’s budget is dedicated to the Education Fund and Transportation, directly supporting students and staff.
Increased state funding, from 12% in 2014 to 30% in 2024, has helped D127 reduce reliance on local property taxes while continuing to invest in aging infrastructure, safety improvements, and innovative learning spaces.
“We take our responsibility to the community seriously,” said Chief School Business Official, Dr. Abe Singh. “We’re proud to deliver real value to taxpayers while keeping students at the center of every financial decision.”
